Before weaving ikat fabric, the yarns are prepared in a special way. This involves tying or tightly wrapping the yarns according to the desired pattern.
The yarns are tightly tied in specific areas to resist dye penetration. Then, the yarns are dipped in various colors. This tying and dyeing process creates patterns on the yarns. The process may be repeated several times until the desired pattern is achieved.
After the dyeing process is completed, the ties on the yarns are removed. At this point, the undyed areas remain in their original color, while the dyed areas form part of the pattern.
The dyed yarns are then woven on traditional looms. During the weaving process, the yarns are brought together, and the ikat patterns emerge on the fabric's surface.
After the weaving is complete, various finishing processes are applied to stabilize and enhance the durability of the fabric.
